Anti-cellulite treatment with VASER® Smooth
Cellulite is caused by hardened strands of connective tissue that pull the skin inwards at certain points, creating the typical dimples and unevenness. VASER® Smooth targets exactly this: using state-of-the-art ultrasound technology and specific probes, these strands are released and severed in a targeted way, while the surrounding tissue is protected.
In most cases, VASER® Smooth is used alongside liposuction with VASERlipo®. This allows two effects to be combined: on the one hand, stubborn fatty tissue is reduced, and on the other, the cellulite strands are released. The result is a twofold improvement – more defined contours and a noticeably smoother skin texture.

The exact causes of cellulite have not yet been fully researched, nor has their respective extent been clearly demonstrated. However, it seems certain that several factors work together. These include, among others:
- Genetic predisposition (family history)
- Nature/structure of the connective tissue (weaker = more susceptible)
- Changes in the fatty tissue (shortened connecting strands), e.g. with age or little exercise
- Hormonal changes, e.g. due to pregnancy, the pill or the menopause
- Individual fat distribution
- Lifestyle and environmental factors, including smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, lack of exercise and fluids, a diet high in sugar and salt, excess weight and stress
- Reduced blood and lymph flow with water and electrolyte retention
Cellulite grade: how pronounced is my cellulite?
How pronounced cellulite is, is divided into three categories:
- Grade 1: the first stage, in which the typical dimples (slightly raised, honeycomb-like unevenness) only become visible when the affected areas of skin are pinched together.
- Grade 2: the dimples are clearly visible when standing, even without pressure on the skin. When lying down, they may partly smooth out again.
- Grade 3: the unevenness of the skin is clearly visible both standing and lying down, and is deep.

Consultation & preparation
Before the treatment, we advise you in detail in a personal conversation about the available options and, where appropriate, suitable alternatives. For example, in the case of pronounced lipoedema, lipoedema treatment with VASER® liposuction may make more sense. For mild cellulite, non-surgical treatments with Thermage® or LPG® can also achieve results.
Treatment
Depending on the individual findings and your personal wishes, the treatment is carried out either under local anaesthetic or under general anaesthetic. A special, fine ultrasound probe is inserted through tiny openings in the skin, with which fibrotic (hardened) strands of connective tissue are released or severed. At the same time, fat cells can also be liquefied by the ultrasound energy, and the heat generated tightens the skin slightly as well.
Aftercare
Slight swelling or bruising may occur directly after the treatment, but this subsides within a few days. Wearing compression garments for 1–2 weeks supports healing in the meantime and contributes to optimal results. Exercise, sauna and intense sun exposure should be avoided during this time.

However, other areas of the body affected by cellulite can generally be treated without difficulty as well.
However, cellulite should not be confused with lipoedema. While cellulite is primarily a cosmetic concern, lipoedema is a pathological fat distribution disorder. It is often accompanied by tenderness to pressure and a tendency to swelling, and must be treated separately.
We also give specific guidance for the time before the procedure. Among other things, this includes drinking enough water (approx. 2.5–3 litres daily) in the three to five days before the treatment. In addition, you should avoid shower gel, creams and other skincare products on the treated area for at least 24 hours before and after the treatment.
If required, excess fat is removed by liposuction at the same time.
