A thread lift is a minimally invasive method of skin tightening that brings both an immediate lifting effect and a long-term improvement of the skin.
Depending on the desired effect, the thread lift can be used to
- tighten the skin, for example for fine lines in the décolletage, or
- lift sagging areas of the face, for example slightly drooping cheeks (jowls) or loose skin on the neck.
Unlike muscle-relaxing rejuvenation treatments such as botulinum toxin, colloquially known as Botox, the skin is tightened and partly lifted in order to restore the natural facial contour.
Compared with a surgical facelift, a thread lift is also considerably gentler, leaves no scars, carries a lower risk of inflammation and you are ready for everyday life again after a short time. Consultation & preparation
We begin with a detailed consultation in which the optimal placement of the threads is determined individually. We also take your medical history, examine the skin, discuss your expectations and the realistically expected results and, if you wish, advise on possible combinations with other cosmetic-aesthetic treatments. In addition, our specialists give guidance on what to bear in mind before the treatment.
Treatment day
The thread lift is carried out as an outpatient procedure under local anaesthetic and takes between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the treatment area.
Aftercare & result
After the treatment, mild swelling or small areas of bruising may occur briefly and subside within a few days. For an optimal result, it is recommended to avoid strong facial expressions, facial treatments, sauna, swimming pool and intense physical activity in the first few days. It can also help to cool the treated areas.

- After 6–10 days: reparative processes in the skin are activated. It regenerates and stabilises.
- A few days to 2–4 months: local blood microcirculation improves, the metabolism of the connective tissue cells (fibroblasts) is activated and their number increases. The skin is now better supplied and can gradually firm up further.
- Within 2–6 months: the formation of collagen, elastin fibres and hyaluronic acid increases. As a result, the skin becomes more elastic, firms up once more and looks rejuvenated overall.

A cheek lift, for example as part of a midface lift, provides more contour and volume in the middle of the face, while tightening the chin and jawline region helps to create a clearer facial contour.

Treatment with Silhouette Soft® uses special absorbable threads with small cones.
These are placed under the skin with fine needles to gently lift sagging areas. At the same time, the lactic acid threads stimulate the body's own collagen production, which strengthens and firms the skin structure in the long term.
The materials used then dissolve on their own after a few months, while the newly formed collagen provides a long-lasting lifting effect.
In a thread lift with Silhouette Soft®, the threads are made of poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) and the small cones of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Both materials are biocompatible and are gradually and fully broken down by the body.
Other thread lift systems sometimes also use threads made of polydioxanone (PDO). These are also absorbable and increase collagen production, but are better suited to skin tightening and improving skin structure than to a pronounced lift.
After disinfecting and numbing the skin with a local anaesthetic, the threads are placed with a fine cannula under the skin in the subcutaneous fatty tissue and positioned so that the desired lifting result is achieved. This is followed by precise modelling to optimise the tightening and contouring.
Different techniques are used depending on the treatment goal. The threads also differ: there are, for example, fine, smooth and slightly spiral threads.
The tightening effect is visible immediately after the treatment and continues to improve over the following weeks as collagen production is stimulated. Depending on the material used and individual skin condition, the result lasts 12 to 18 months.

The threads dissolve on their own within 6–12 months. The tightening effect, however, can continue to increase for up to 18–24 months, as collagen production is stimulated for longer. A healthy lifestyle is decisive for the further development of the skin and the result.
The thread lift is performed under local anaesthetic, so the treatment is largely free of pain. After the treatment, however, you may occasionally feel a slight tightness.
Most patients can return to daily life immediately after the thread lift. However, there may be slight swelling, bruising or temporary asymmetry, which subsides within a few days.
Yes, a thread lift can, for example, be combined with hyaluronic acid fillers, an anti-wrinkle treatment, PRP or a laser treatment to optimise the result further.
