The bullhorn lip lift, also called an excision, is a surgical procedure to permanently shorten the upper lip and emphasise the lip contour. Through targeted lifting of the red of the lip, a full, youthful expression is created – without building up volume with fillers.

Preparation
In a personal consultation, our specialists explain the different methods for a fuller upper lip and the possible risks. To prepare optimally for the procedure, you should avoid cigarettes and alcohol for at least 7 to 10 days before the treatment, as otherwise blood clotting and wound healing may be affected.
Day of treatment
The bullhorn lip lift is performed under local anaesthetic or, on request, twilight sedation, and takes about 45 to 60 minutes.
Aftercare & healing process
In the first days the area should not be stretched – hearty laughing, chewing or talking should be avoided as far as possible. The stitches are usually removed after about a week.

The incision is made directly beneath the nostril and the columella, where a small strip of skin in the shape of a “bullhorn” (hence the name) is removed. The skin is then sutured so that the upper lip is drawn slightly upwards.
This makes more of the red of the lip visible, the distance between nose and lip is shortened, and the whole mouth area looks more harmonious, livelier and often even more feminine.
Unlike with injectable treatments, it is not the volume that changes but only the proportion – and the result is permanent.
Sun protection and scar care should also be observed, to support healing and avoid visible scars.
Result and longevity
The final result is visible after a few weeks, once swelling and redness have subsided. As the scar is placed directly beneath the base of the nose, it is very discreet when the procedure is performed professionally.
Because the skin is permanently redistributed, the result also remains stable – repeat treatment is generally not necessary.
