What is rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty (medically: rhinoplasty) is a surgical procedure to change the shape of the nose. A distinction is made between closed and open rhinoplasty:
- Gentle, closed surgical technique without visible scars
- Open surgical technique with a small, barely visible scar
Reasons for rhinoplasty
Not everyone is happy with their own nose. If it is too large, too wide, too long or conspicuously shaped, it can disturb the harmony of the profile. The function of the nose can also be impaired, obstructing breathing and thereby causing health problems.
A precisely planned, individually tailored correction of the nose can be the solution here. We do not pursue a standardised ideal of beauty, but a nose shape whose size and lines harmonise with the rest of the face – natural and individual from every angle.
How can the nose be corrected with surgery?
Depending on the anatomical starting point, the nose can be made smaller, straightened or narrowed, the tip refined or a hump removed (aesthetic rhinoplasty). Functional aspects such as obstructed nasal breathing can also be integrated into the surgery and improved.

Preparation
Before the surgery itself, there is a detailed consultation. This covers not only your wishes and expectations but also an analysis of your individual facial anatomy. In many cases we also use a digital simulation to develop a realistic target image.
Day of treatment
The surgery itself is usually performed under general anaesthetic and takes about 1.5 to 3 hours.
Aftercare & healing process
In the first few days after the procedure, the head should be kept raised and physical exertion avoided. To keep the nose stable, aftercare also includes a nasal splint or cast. Cooling, rest and decongestant medication also support healing.

Depending on the technique (open or closed), the skin is released either through a small incision on the columella or entirely from the inside, in order to model the underlying structures – bone and cartilage – precisely. We pay particular attention to stable support, a natural shape and scarring that is as inconspicuous as possible.
The nose also remains particularly sensitive for a few weeks. Glasses should therefore not rest directly on it, and sunbathing and sport should be avoided for the time being.
So that healing goes as well as possible and any swelling or hardening can be detected and treated early, we also hold regular check-up appointments.
Results and duration: when do you see the final result?
The final result develops gradually. After approx. 10 days the cast is removed, and after two to three weeks most visible swelling has subsided. A slight residual swelling – especially at the tip of the nose – can, however, persist for several months.
The new shape of the nose is permanent once healing is complete.

Frequently asked questions
The swelling subsides gradually after the operation: a large part goes down in the first three weeks. Slight residual swelling – especially around the tip of the nose – can, however, persist for up to 12 months. This usually changes only in ways visible to a trained eye.
Yes. In many cases a so-called septoplasty (straightening of the nasal septum) improves nasal breathing. At Innerform, however, we only offer aesthetic or functional-aesthetic corrections, as we do not bill the health insurers.
Yes. Once healing is fully complete, the aesthetic result is maintained permanently. The nose ages like any other part of the body, but it does not “revert” to its former shape.
Not with a well-planned and properly performed rhinoplasty. The aim is always a harmonious, natural-looking result that suits your individual facial anatomy – not a “standard nose”.
Most patients feel a sense of pressure rather than severe pain after the procedure. Slight discomfort may occur in the first few days, but can be managed well with common painkillers.
Directly after rhinoplasty breathing may be restricted – mainly due to internal swelling. After a few days, however, nasal breathing improves considerably.
Light physical activity is usually possible again two weeks after nose surgery. Intensive exercise, especially contact sports, should be avoided for 6–8 weeks, however, so as not to jeopardise the result.
The external nasal splint is generally worn for 7–10 days after the operation. It protects the new shape of the nose during the first healing phase and should stay dry and intact until it is removed.
