What our patients say about us
Breast reduction: Less discomfort, more ease
Breasts that are too large or too small are, of course, a subjective perception. The decision to undergo breast reduction surgery is therefore a very personal one and must always be considered in the context of the overall picture of natural proportions.
Above all, if large breast size has been a burden since adolescence, if volume has increased after pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if the breasts have sagged over time, breast reduction can make a noticeable difference in everyday life for many patients. They gain greater freedom of movement, relieve strain on their bodies, and often report a generally lighter and more positive body image.
What is meant by breast reduction?
Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammoplasty or mammoplasty, aims to reduce the volume of the breasts by removing excess glandular, fatty, and connective tissue.
Where possible, the sensitivity of the nipple is preserved. However, in rare cases involving very large breasts (gigantomastia), a free nipple transfer may be necessary. We will, of course, provide detailed information about this during your personal consultation.
Who is breast reduction intended for?
This procedure is often performed on women who suffer from restricted movement, discomfort, tight bra straps, frequent inflammation of the underbust fold, and other physical complaints such as back and neck pain or postural problems due to very large breasts.
However, women who wish to change the shape and size of their breasts for aesthetic reasons also opt for this surgery. This may be the case, for example, after pregnancy or significant weight loss.
The combination of breast reduction and lift for the best possible results
In many cases, breast reduction and breast lift are combined to reduce the volume of the breasts and to tighten and lift the breast shape. This not only alleviates the functional problems of oversized or sagging breasts, but also achieves an aesthetic breast shape.
Both procedures can be performed independently or in combination, depending on the individual needs and wishes of the patient.
The breast reduction procedure at Innerform in Berlin
1. Consultation & Preparation
During a personal consultation, we will discuss your individual reasons and expectations in detail, as well as the possible results of breast reduction surgery.
In preparation for the procedure, you should refrain from taking blood-thinning painkillers (e.g., aspirin) and smoking cigarettes for about 14 days before the operation. Both can have a negative effect on wound healing and blood circulation.
2. The day of the operation
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and can take between 2 and 4 hours, depending on the extent of the reduction and individual circumstances.
During the procedure, the surgeon removes the excess tissue and, in the case of a breast lift, simultaneously tightens the remaining breast skin to achieve a firmer, younger, and more harmonious shape.
The incisions are usually made around the nipple, along the crease under the breast, and possibly vertically from the nipple downwards.
3. Recovery time & aftercare
After breast reduction and/or lift surgery, a recovery period of approximately 2 to 4 weeks is required. Pain, swelling, and bruising may occur in the first few days after the operation, but these symptoms will subside over time. In addition, a special support bra or compression garment must be worn for several weeks. This provides support for the breasts and promotes healing.
The final shape of the breasts will only become apparent after a few months, once all swelling has subsided.
However, patients can usually resume light everyday activities after about 1 to 2 weeks, while more intense physical exertion and sporting activities should be avoided for about 4 to 6 weeks.
Healing process & scarring after breast reduction surgery
Since incisions are made along the nipple, vertically, and/or under the breast fold during breast reduction and lift surgery, scars are usually unavoidable. However, these scars are usually well hidden and fade over time (6 to 9 months). We also use modern techniques to minimize the extent of the scars.
Despite everything, scar care should not be neglected during the healing process. We will also advise you personally and give you recommendations. We also carry out regular follow-up checks. This allows us to ensure that healing is progressing properly and that any complications can be detected at an early stage.

FAQ: The most frequently asked questions about breast reduction surgery at our clinic in Berlin
Below, we have answered the most frequently asked questions about breast reduction surgery.
Will scars remain visible after breast reduction surgery?
Yes, scars remain, but they fade with time and are made as inconspicuous as possible using modern incision techniques.
Can I breastfeed after a breast reduction?
In principle, breastfeeding is possible after breast reduction surgery. However, as glandular tissue is also reduced during the procedure, the ability to breastfeed may be limited in individual cases. It is important to seek individual advice on this matter before the operation.
How much tissue can be removed during breast reduction surgery?
The amount of tissue removed varies depending on the individual findings. Often several hundred grams to several kilograms are removed.
What are the risks and side effects of breast reduction surgery?
Possible side effects of breast reduction surgery include scarring, changes in sensitivity, or temporary asymmetry. However, good aftercare significantly reduces the risk of unwanted complications.
