Elegant lip rejuvenation through optical enhancement with long-lasting results

The Bullhorn Lip Lift is an elegant surgical technique designed to permanently reduce the distance between the nose and the upper lip, revealing more of the lip’s natural color—all without fillers.
At Innerform in Berlin, we use the Bullhorn Lip Lift to subtly lift the lip, making the mouth appear fuller, more youthful, and more expressive. Especially for those with a long philtrum or minimal visible lip volume, the procedure offers an effective, permanent alternative to traditional lip injections—with natural-looking results and a barely visible scar directly under the nose.

Visually enhance the upper lip with a Bullhorn Lip Lift

The Bullhorn Lip Lift, also known as excision, is a surgical procedure designed to permanently shorten the upper lip and define the lip contour. By selectively lifting the vermilion border, it creates a fuller, more youthful appearance—without the need for volume enhancement through fillers.

Who is a bullhorn lip lift suitable for?

The Bullhorn Lip Lift is particularly suitable for

  • People whose distance between the nose and the edge of the lips is elongated due to age or genetics, causing the upper lip to appear less prominent, as well as
  • Patients who have thin lips and want to naturally enhance their upper lip because they desire a more harmonious, long-lasting lip-to-mouth ratio.

Procedure: Bullhorn Lip Flip at Innerform in Berlin

1. Preparation

During a personal consultation, our specialists will explain the various methods for achieving fuller upper lips, as well as any potential risks. To ensure you are fully prepared for the procedure, you should avoid smoking and drinking alcohol for at least 7 to 10 days prior to treatment, as these can affect blood clotting and wound healing.

Day 2 of treatment

The Bullhorn Lip Lift is performed under local anesthesia or, if desired, under twilight sedation, and takes about 45 to 60 minutes.

The incision is made just below the nostrils and the bridge of the nose, where a small strip of skin shaped like a ā€œbullhornā€ (hence the name) is removed. The skin is then sutured in such a way that the upper lip is pulled slightly upward.

This makes more of the lip color visible, shortens the distance between the nose and the lips, and makes the entire mouth area appear more harmonious, lively, and often even more feminine.

Unlike with dermal fillers, this procedure does not change the volume, but only the proportions—and the results are permanent.

3. Aftercare & Healing Process

For the first few days, you should avoid straining the area—try to avoid laughing, chewing, or talking too much. The stitches are usually removed after about a week.

It is also important to use sunscreen and follow a scar care routine to promote healing and prevent visible scars.

Result and durability

The final result will be visible after a few weeks, once the swelling and redness have subsided. Since the scar is located directly below the base of the nose, it is virtually unnoticeable when the procedure is performed properly.

Because the skin is continuously redistributed, the results are long-lasting—further treatment is generally not necessary.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions About the Bullhorn Lip Lift in Berlin

Below, we have answered the most frequently asked questions about the Bullhorn Lip Lift.

What is a Bullhorn Lip Lift?

A bullhorn lip lift is a surgical procedure designed to reduce the distance between the nose and the upper lip and make the upper lip appear fuller.

How long does a Bullhorn lip lift last?

A Bullhorn lip lift is permanent. However, depending on individual skin aging and other factors, a follow-up procedure may be advisable over time, though this is generally not necessary for at least 10 to 15 years.

What is the difference between a bullhorn lip lift and lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid?

In a bullhorn lip lift, a small strip of skin is removed from below the nose, making the upper lip appear permanently fuller even without added volume. With lip augmentation using hyaluronic acid, however, the lower lip can also be treated. The results of this procedure are not permanent, however, which is why the treatment must be repeated approximately every six to twelve months.

Are there visible scars after the Bullhorn Lift?

No, in most cases the scars heal without any problems and fade over time. In addition, very fine sutures are used, and the incisions are made just below the nose. As a result, they are barely noticeable and can usually be covered with light makeup or even just powder during the healing process.

Is a bullhorn lip lift painful?

Since a bullhorn lip lift is typically performed under local anesthesia and, if desired, with twilight sedation, you will not feel any pain during the procedure. Shortly after the procedure, you may experience mild pain or a feeling of tightness, but this can be easily relieved with pain medication.
