Radiantly youthful-looking skin with Fraxel DUAL®

Fraxel DUAL® is a state-of-the-art, non-invasive laser treatment that specifically improves skin texture, reduces pigmentation spots, and minimizes wrinkles. This innovative technology stimulates collagen production, among other things, resulting in a refreshed, even, and radiant complexion.

Who is a good candidate for Fraxel DUAL® laser treatment?

This treatment is ideal for people who want to combat the first signs of aging or minimize acne scars, age spots, and sun damage.

How does Fraxel DUAL® treatment work?

The technology is based on fractional laser technology. During the treatment, microscopic areas of skin are targeted with light pulses to activate the body’s natural healing processes and improve skin texture. This fractional method ensures that healthy skin areas between the treated zones remain intact, which shortens healing time and minimizes risks.

With Fraxel DUAL®, two laser wavelengths can be used to specifically treat skin problems both deep within the skin and on the surface.

The different wavelengths

The two wavelengths can be used either individually or in combination, depending on the individual needs of the skin and the desired results.

1. Wavelength – 1550 nm (for deeper layers of the skin)

The first wavelength, 1550 nm, penetrates deeper into the skin and is particularly effective in treating deeper skin lesions such as

  • Acne scars and
  • deeper wrinkles

It stimulates collagen production, resulting in firmer and smoother skin.

The 1550 nm wavelength is therefore particularly suitable for people with skin types that have few pigmentation issues and require firmer skin. In addition, it can be helpful in treating stretch marks and skin with enlarged pores.

2. Wavelength – 1927 nm (for the more superficial layers of the skin)

The second wavelength, 1927 nm, acts on the skin's surface and is particularly effective against pigmentation disorders such as sunspots, age spots, and melasma.

It helps even out skin tone and improve the overall appearance of the skin. This wavelength has a gentler effect on the skin and promotes cell renewal without causing significant damage to the outermost layer of the skin.

Combination of both wavelengths

In many cases, a combination of both wavelengths is recommended to thoroughly treat both the surface and the deeper layers of the skin. This combined treatment enables a comprehensive improvement in the skin’s appearance—from firming to the elimination of pigmentation spots and wrinkles.

Procedure: Skin treatment with Fraxel DUAL® at Innerform in Berlin

1. Preparation

To ensure the best possible results, every treatment plan begins with a consultation. During this consultation, we discuss your goals and expectations and provide a thorough medical assessment. We also analyze your skin to select the appropriate wavelength for your specific skin type.

Day 2 of treatment

To minimize discomfort, a numbing cream is applied to the skin approximately 60 minutes before the treatment. The treatment itself takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the area of skin being treated. During the procedure, the Fraxel DUAL® laser delivers pulses of light into the skin. This gradually treats microscopic areas of the skin and stimulates their regeneration.

3. Recovery and Aftercare

After the treatment, you may experience mild to moderate redness and swelling, which usually subside after a few days. Your skin may also feel slightly flaky or dry, which is part of the healing process.

In the first few days after treatment, direct sunlight should be avoided as much as possible. We also recommend using a vitamin C serum, a lightweight moisturizing gel with vitamin B5, and a high-SPF sunscreen daily to help the skin regenerate while keeping it protected. This applies even if you don’t leave the house (UV rays can pass through windows).

What skin problems can the Fraxel laser treat?

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars and surgical scars
  • Sun damage and pigmentation spots
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven skin texture

For which skin types is Fraxel DUAL® not suitable?

Fraxel is not ideal for very dark skin types (Fitzpatrick 5 and 6), as there is a risk of hyperpigmentation or loss of pigmentation. It is also not recommended for people with very sensitive skin, active rosacea, or a tendency to develop keloid scars.

Who is unsuitable for Fraxel?

Fraxel is not suitable for:

  • People with active skin infections or inflammation
  • People with active acne or herpes outbreaks
  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women
  • People who have recently had a chemical peel or other laser treatment
  • Patients who are taking blood-thinning medications or who have a tendency toward poor wound healing

Can Fraxel be combined with other treatments?

Yes, Fraxel can be effectively combined with PRP, skin boosters, or chemical peels, for example, to optimally support skin renewal.

Is the Fraxel treatment painful?

Before the treatment, a numbing cream is applied to make the procedure more comfortable. During the session, you may also feel a sensation of warmth, but this is usually quite tolerable.

How long does a Fraxel session last?

Depending on the area treated, the treatment takes approx. 30-60 minutes.

How many sessions are required for Fraxel DUAL®?

For best results, 2–5 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart are recommended, depending on your skin condition. Initial improvements are often visible after the first treatment.

How long does it take to heal after a Fraxel laser treatment?

After the treatment, the skin may be red for a few days and may show slight swelling or feel like a sunburn. This is followed by mild to moderate peeling as the skin regenerates. The skin usually returns to normal after 5–7 days.

When will I see results after a Fraxel DUAL® laser treatment?

The first results are visible after about a week. The final results then develop over several months, as the skin continuously produces new collagen.

How long do the results of Fraxel DUAL® laser treatment last?

The results are long-lasting, especially with proper skincare and sun protection. Many patients also undergo a touch-up once a year to maintain the results.

Are there any side effects associated with Fraxel laser treatment?

Typical side effects are redness, slight swelling and a feeling of dry skin. In rare cases, temporary hyperpigmentation may occur, especially if consistent UV protection is not used.

What is the difference between Fraxel DUAL® and a CO2 laser?

Unlike Fraxel DUAL®, a CO2 laser penetrates deeper into the skin and removes the entire upper layer of skin. As a result, the treatment is more effective, but the healing time is also significantly longer. A CO2 laser is often used for more severe scars or significantly deeper wrinkles.

Fraxel DUAL® is therefore particularly well-suited for gentler, gradual skin rejuvenation with less downtime.
