VASER® liposuction is an advanced method for the gentle treatment of lipoedema. In contrast to conventional liposuction, it uses ultrasound-based technology to specifically loosen and precisely remove the abnormal fatty tissue. This not only reduces swelling and pain, but also harmonizes the body contours. At the same time, the surrounding tissue, especially lymphatic channels and blood vessels, are spared as much as possible, which facilitates healing.
Treatment procedure
VASER® liposuction is performed in several steps. First, a special tumescent solution is injected into the tissue to loosen up the fat cells and make the treatment less painful. High-frequency ultrasound waves are then used to liquefy the fat cells in a targeted manner without damaging connective tissue, muscles or nerves. The dissolved fat is then gently suctioned out using fine cannulas.
The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with twilight sleep or general anesthesia and takes between two and four hours, depending on the treatment area. Immediately after the treatment, there may be noticeable relief as the abnormal fatty tissue has been removed and the pressure on the lymphatic channels is reduced.
Result and durability
The improvement in symptoms is often noticeable shortly after the operation, as swelling and feelings of tightness decrease. The final aesthetic result can be seen after around three to six months, when the tissue has swollen away and the skin has adapted to the new contour. As lipoedema fat cells do not grow back, the result is permanent as long as the body weight remains stable.
Important aspects of aftercare
After the operation, it is recommended to wear a special compression garment for around six weeks to minimize swelling and support healing. Lymphatic drainage can also help to promote the removal of fluids. Physical activity is possible again without restrictions after around four to six weeks.

Why is liposuction useful for lipedema?
Lipoedema is a chronic fat distribution disorder that cannot be influenced by diet or exercise. Liposuction permanently removes the abnormal fat cells, relieves pain and improves mobility and body awareness.
Is VASER® liposuction suitable for all lipoedema patients?
VASER® is particularly suitable for patients with lipoedema stages 1-3 who suffer from painful fat deposits. In advanced cases (stage 4), a combination with other procedures may be useful. An individual consultation is essential.
How many procedures are necessary for a complete treatment?
This depends on the stage of lipoedema and the affected body region. Often 1-3 sessions are necessary to achieve the desired result.
Does liposuction permanently remove lipedema?
The liposuctioned fat cells do not return as they do not reproduce. However, hormonal changes or an unhealthy lifestyle can lead to renewed weight gain.
How long does it take to heal after lipoedema liposuction with VASER®?
Most patients are able to return to work after 1-2 weeks. The swelling and bruising subside within 4-6 weeks, while the final result is visible after approx. 3-6 months.
Do I have to wear compression garments after the treatment?
Yes, for approx. 6-8 weeks. The compression garment helps to reduce swelling, supports healing and ensures an optimal aesthetic result.
Is VASER® liposuction for lipoedema painful?
Local or general anesthesia is used during the procedure so that no pain is felt. After the operation, there may be slight feelings of tension and tenderness, but these can be easily treated with painkillers.
Is the operation covered by health insurance?
In Germany, liposuction for lipoedema from stage 3 is covered by statutory health insurance in some cases. Private health insurance companies may have individual regulations. Innerform is a self-paying practice. Cost coverage should be clarified in advance.
Are there any risks associated with lipoedema liposuction with VASER®?
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks, including swelling, temporary numbness and, rarely, infection. However, these are lower compared to the conventional method, as VASER® is gentler on the tissue.
Is additional tightening surgery necessary after liposuction?
This depends on the individual skin condition. If there is a lot of excess skin, a thigh or abdominoplasty may be advisable. In many cases, however, a combination with J-Plasma or Emtone is sufficient.
Which treatments can VASER® liposuction be combined with for lipedema?
The treatment can be combined with skin tightening methods such as J-Plasma, lymphatic drainage, Emtone against cellulite, PRP for skin regeneration or body injections with fillers. Lifting operations can also be useful in certain cases.
J-Plasma can additionally tighten the skin after liposuction and stimulate collagen production. It can help to improve skin quality, particularly in patients with weak connective tissue or advanced lipoedema.
Lymphatic drainage promotes the removal of fluids, reduces swelling and supports healing. It can be performed both manually and with devices such as Emtone.
