Upper and lower eyelid lift in Berlin

Precise eyelid correction for an awakened look

With increasing age, the skin around the eyelids sags as collagen production decreases. This often leads to excess skin on the upper eyelids and bags or fat deposits on the lower eyelids, which are not only visually disturbing but in some cases also restrict vision. In addition to the natural ageing process, genetic factors or environmental factors such as sun exposure and smoking can promote the sagging and development of fat deposits. Eyelid lifts - both on the upper and lower eyelid - can counteract these changes and help to create a fresher, more open expression

In addition to the classic surgical experience, which delivers the most dramatic results, at Innerform we also offer minimally invasive treatments for sagging upper eyelids with Thermage or Fraxel, which can be used effectively for less advanced drooping eyelids.

With increasing age, the skin loses elasticity and collagen production decreases. In the eye area, this is reflected by excess skin on the upper eyelids, which gives a tired or overcast look, as well as sagging skin and visible fat pads on the lower eyelids ("bags under the eyes"), which make the eyes look exhausted. Genetic predisposition, intense sun exposure and smoking can also exacerbate these changes.

Goal and rough procedure

An eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) is a surgical procedure in which excess skin, sagging tissue and, if necessary, excess fat are removed from the upper and/or lower eyelids. The aim is to achieve a fresher, rejuvenated look without changing the natural facial expression.

Before the procedure, a detailed examination, medical history and photo documentation are carried out to determine the individual treatment plan. A local anaesthetic is administered on the day of treatment; a sedation or general anaesthetic can also be used on request. The duration of the procedure is usually between one and two hours and depends on whether only the upper eyelids, only the lower eyelids or both areas are treated.

Healing and aftercare

Immediately after the procedure, swelling and bruising in the eye area are normal and can be reduced by regular cooling and slightly elevated positioning of the upper body. These side effects subside significantly within around one to two weeks. The stitches are removed after around seven to ten days. Social activities are usually possible again after around ten to fourteen days. The final result will be visible as soon as all swelling has subsided, which is usually after a few months.

Risks

As with any surgical procedure, swelling, bruising, temporary dryness or irritation of the eyes may occur. In rare cases, asymmetries or more noticeable scarring are possible. These risks can be minimized by carefully selecting the surgeon and following all aftercare instructions.

How long do the results of blepharoplasty last?

The result usually lasts for many years. However, the natural ageing process continues to progress, so that a new treatment may be necessary after 10-15 years.

Is the procedure painful?

As the operation is performed under anesthesia, patients do not feel any pain during the procedure. After the operation, there may be slight swelling or feelings of tension, which can be easily treated with cooling and painkillers.

Will visible scars remain?

As the incision is made in the natural crease of the eyelid, the scars are barely visible after healing.

Can an eyelid lift be combined with other treatments?

Yes, it is often combined with minimally invasive treatments such as wrinkle treatment or hyaluronic acid to achieve a more harmonious overall result.

How does the operation work?

The upper eyelid lift is usually performed under local anesthesia with twilight sleep or, if desired, under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes a fine incision along the natural eyelid crease, removes excess skin and, if necessary, fatty tissue and sutures the skin with fine stitches. The procedure takes around 45-60 minutes.

When can I go back to work and do sport?

Light activities are possible after just a few days. However, physical exertion and sport should be avoided for around two to four weeks in order to minimize swelling and not impair the healing process.
